Roseberry Mule

Last weekend was the official start of the holiday season for Corey and I! We broke in our new Christmas Pj’s, put on some Christmas vinyl, and decorated the apartment/tree. We’ve already started a tradition of decorating the house during the day, then going out for dinner before returning home to watch the Grinch, make festive drinks, and decorate the tree. Corey and I have taken an interest in homemade mixology over the last year. At first it may seem daunting to make fancy drinks in your own kitchen, but honestly its rather simple! There are two ingredients I suggest having on hand because usually one or the other is added to drinks to make them smoother: St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, and a bottle of bitters (I like Hella Bitters from Brooklyn). If I had to pick favorite cocktail of ours, it would definitely be the Moscow Mule. A standard mule is Vodka, Ginger Beer, Elderflower, and Lime Juice: simple and refreshing. While just fine on its own, the Mule is incredibly versatile and can be made with a variety of different ingredients. We’ve experimented with adding herbs (basil, mint, and rosemary), different liqueurs, and adding different juices. This weekend we made the most festive mule we’ve made. A Cranberry & Rosemary Mule, or as Corey called it, the Roseberry Mule. Equally tasty as it was picturesque.

Enjoying delicious cocktails at home with Corey is part of what makes up my idea of balance. I don’t restrict alcohol from my diet, and by experimenting at home, its another outlet of culinary creativity. If you mix at home, you can be selective with the ingredients you chose to add to drinks, like using organic juices, or handcrafted ginger beers. Target has so many great organic and artisan mixers for a relatively good price. Give this mule a try if you love a cocktail thats a mix of sweet and savory. Roseberry Mule

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 1 shot vodka (Tito’s is the best)
  • 1 shot Elderflower liqueur (we use St. Germain)
  • juice of 1/4-1/2 a lime
  • 4 oz of ginger beer (Q brand makes 4 oz cans, sold at target)
  • 100% cranberry juice
  • rosemary sprigs
  • fresh cranberries

Directions:

  1. Fill a copper mule mug halfway with ice.
  2. Add the alcohol, lime, and ginger beer, mix well.
  3. Top with cranberry juice and add a sprig of rosemary.
  4. Garnish with fresh cranberries.
  5. Clink your glasses and enjoy!
