It’s certainly been a bit too long since my last post. My new job has begun and needless to say, hobbies quickly took a backseat spot in my life last week. Work will be much smoother and consistent in a few weeks once the school year begins but for now I am working at the mercy of the scattered schedules of fall sport preseason practices. This morning I left for work at about 6:15 and when breakfast is that early, I usually do best with a nutrient dense smoothie as my source for energy. Smoothies are also my first choice on summer mornings of which I wake up and the humidity is easily above 80%. Is it fall yet? For today’s smoothie, I decided to use banana and frozen butternut squash as my base and this combo did not disappoint. Butternut squash was made to be combined with cinnamon and peanut butter. Hemp seed and flax seed lended nutritious omega fatty acids and Aloha vanilla protein powder packed the smoothie with quality plant protein. I’m obsessed with Aloha, however I also do enjoy Whole Foods brand fit protein. Make sure you check the ingredients when shopping around for a quality protein powder because brands can be very sneaky when adding extra stuff.
Give this smoothie a try at home! It tastes as delicious as a milkshake, and will keep you full and fueled.
What you need:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup frozen butternut squash
- 1 1/2 cup almond milk

- 1 tbsp hemp seed
- 1 tbsp flax seed
- Vanilla plant based protein powder of choice (I used Aloha)
What to do:
- Blend all ingredients together until smooth.
- Drink the smoothie and let your taste buds do a happy dance.
